The Riddle of the Sands

Imagine Dan Brown’s The DaVinci Code liberally peppered with steamy gay sex scenes and you’ve got Geoffrey Knight’s Riddle Of The Sands, a pulse-pounding psychological thriller that ladles on the action, both inside the bedroom and out.

Blackmailed by their nemesis, the nefarious Pierre Perron, a team of five gay adventurers are sent on what seems to be an impossible mission, namely, to uncover the legendary Riddle of the Sands in order to save one of their peers from the grips of a deadly poison. As they come across cryptic clues and complicated maps, questions abound: Is The Riddle a myth, a mirage, or the greatest engineering feat in the history of ancient Egypt?

It’s a race against time, and the clock is ticking! From the icy plains of Siberia to the smoldering bathhouses of Cairo, the five unstoppable action heroes—a famed New York explorer, a Brazilian biologist, a Texas cowboy, an Italian art expert and a Californian college quarterback—find themselves up to their necks in swashbuckling action and high-octane sex. Complete with a great plot, loveable characters, scorching sex scenes and tricky puzzles, this is a mind-blowing blockbuster you’ll never forget!

I really liked this book! It was fun, adventurous, with lots of action and danger, and just the right amount of erotica without taking away from the story. I?m looking forward to reading the first book, ?Fathom?s Five? and the following books in this series. This is a great fast-read book that was a lot of fun. With a unique combination of hunky men, Professor Fathom?s group of skilled and clever adventurers are forced into a situation that will bring them together from around the world to the sands of Egypt. They are in search of the Lost Pyramid, in order to save the life of one of their own, by a crazed Frenchmen missing a finger. Shane is a gorgeous tan Texas cowboy with superior skills in cartography. He soon falls for the new member, David, a geeky reporter for a London newspaper. Jake, a New Yorker, is desperate to save the life of his partner, Sam, an 18-year-old kid from the streets, who has been poisoned. In the meantime, Dr. Santiago travels to the Amazon in search for the antidote to the rare, slow acting, and deadly poison. Luca, an Italian, will aid in any way possible to ensure their success. Together, they will uncover a mystery buried in the sands for thousands of years, and meant to stay buried by the infamous priest Imhotep. Jake will be forced to confront his father in an unusual set of circumstances that puts them meeting one another in Cairo. Will their relationship end in disaster just like that of Imhotep and his son? That is if they survive. In the race to save Sam?s life, and Jake possibly resolving his issues with his father, (mirrored by the relationship of Imhotep and his son), the team race against time to survive the ingenious booby-traps meant to bury them along with the answer to ?The Riddle of the Sands?.

Barely Worth a Star

I found the plot unbelievable and the characters flat and without development. Any comparison to The Da Vinci Code is strictly in the author's day dreams.

Fun and out there

This book was entertaining and fast moving. Not a heavy read at all and very "James Bond like". The book had a well connected/thought out plot with supportive scenes. Great weekend or beach read. Liked it VERY much.

cliched, dull, and lackluster

There are two steamy scenes in the entire book, the final one on page 74 or so. The rest of it sounds like someone is describing a videogame to you, 'First you have to jump from one column to the next, oh but the columns are sinking, and oh yeah, there are snakes. And in the other room, there are these gears that are turning, and you have to jump from one gear to the next, oh and there are alligators. Did I mention the guy shooting at you?'
