What’s eating Danny Fortunato? To an outsider looking in, he seems to have it all. He’s as smart, handsome and funny as he was in his twenties, when he was widely considered to be the hottest go-go boy in West Hollywood. Now living in Palm Springs, he’s about to celebrate his 41st birthday, but perhaps “celebrate” isn’t the right word. There’s a secret he’s held close to his heart since he was a teenager, and it’s still haunting him with a vengeance.
Something’s been missing in Danny’s life since the day he turned fourteen, the same day his sister mysteriously disappeared. He feels like his whole life has been a sham, an empty performance. When a young bartender named Kelly seems indifferent to Danny, it only confirms his suspicions that he’s disappearing into thin air. However, an agonizing connection between the two men is soon unearthed, and it awakens something in Danny, who suddenly embarks on a soul-searching quest to reclaim his dreams and recover his lust for life.
Filled with great warmth, humor and humanity, William J. Mann’s Object of Desire takes readers through three milestone eras in a man’s life, from the debauchery of his youth to his more reflective adult existence.

Now this is book! Great story, great supporting characters and well written. Its a been a while since I thoroughly enjoyed a book and remebered it several weeks later.

All I can say is what a great book! It's been a long time since I have so enjoyed a book like this one. The ending literally had me sitting on the edge of my seat. What a great book!

It is so exhilarating to read well written English sentences that combine to form an interesting subject and, as well, entertain. I am so tired of psychological, depressing subjects that seek "true to life" experiences. When I watch TV and read novels and short fiction, I prefer not to have to be critical of the subject matter and the way it is presented, whether it be writing or acting; instead, I want to be entertained. This novel fitted my criteria of good writing.

One of the few books I've read lately that stumped me. I can usually see the plot way down the road and the journey becomes less enjoyable. Mann got me good with this book!

I just finished reading this book and I had to log in to InsightOutBooks.com and write what a pleasure was to read it. Plenty of details and description of memories from the characters that will lead you to perfectly picture their situations and experiences through their lives. And the best part, one beautiful ending.
