Teen angst: We've all felt it, so why is it so hard for writers to really capture it? It takes a truly gifted author to portray that turbulent time as it truly is, without condescension, without simplification—and Peter Cameron is just such a genius. In his brilliantly titled new novel Someday This Pain Will be Useful to You, the author of Andorra conveys that exquisite teenage tension between the adult the world wants you to become and the true self you're still trying to find.
Eighteen-year-old New York City native James Sveck—as aloof as he is charming and intelligent—should be bound for his freshman year at Brown. But the only thing James wants is out—out of the meaninglessness of college and the madness of Manhattan. So he's spending his time scouring Midwestern real-estate listings, looking for the perfect farmhouse hideaway. Maybe there he can escape from his distant parents, his disdainful sister, his D-list grandmother, his distinctly unhelpful shrink—and his devastatingly handsome colleague at his mother's art gallery.…
In the tradition of The Catcher in the Rye, Someday This Pain Will be Useful to You is a fearless, funny, unforgettable exploration of the adolescent mind—and heart.

to start off with, i enjoyed it with a melodramatic sense throughout the book.. the way that i could relate to the character really well was interesting, and saw myself and where my faults stood. reading it wherever i went, it was difficult to put it down, which is always enjoyable, a quick read for anyone to enjoy, highly recommended
