From the earliest daguerreotypes of gay lovers clandestinely captured by sympathetic photographers to secret photos by 20th-century photographers trying to hide their homosexuality, this collection of homoerotic images gives us a glimpse into the history of gay photography from 1840 to the present. Here are hundreds of photos of taboo homoerotic nudes from the 1800s, beefcakes from 1960s body-building magazines and modern lovers in their most intimate moments, showcased in one beautifully bound edition. Featuring never-before-seen photos gathered from private collections and museum archives, as well as works by famous photographers, this is an essential addition to any erotica collection. Bought this book locally for a xmas gift. Beautiful pictures and a very well done layout. Worth this much cheaper price!

I apologize for this not lending any insight into the book itself, but I have to wonder if people truly show as much umbrage about not being able to see inside photo books of, say, the world's finest cheese...I would say that the description above adequately explains this book's content. Has it occurred to anyone that maybe Doubleday is trying to have a site tasteful enough for all age groups that may be shopping here? The book obviously has pictures of naked, homosexual men. Is there really a problem grasping what the photographic composition is going to resemble? There are two well worded reviews here, and as the book is no longer $70, either buy it, or get something else.

I love this book and how it is broken down into sections about the history of homoerotic photography. I was very reluctant to purchase without seeing the book preview but decided to take a change. I was not dissapointed.
