Yes, this is my FAVORITE book by an American Author. I really cannot remember how old I was when I read the book the first time or when I saw the movie (which was very good & added to further readings). I do re-read this book over & over & never tire of it, I love the characters, which come out of the page & into my living room, they are so vivid to me. Of course, Atticus does "favor" Gregory Peck, sort of. Scout is just the greatest little kid ever, and I love her conversations with Atticus. They are all so wonderful, Jem, unique little Dill, wonderful Calpernia and who could ever forget Boo Radley. These are my "friends" but of course there are many others in the book, some very nice, lovely people but many NOT such very nice people. But in all, this book takes you to another time & another place, with something to FEEL, something to learn{perhaps not fully realizing the learning), a hot southern summer to enjoy, & a front porch swing in which to sit & to feel the breezes & watch the neighbors walk by & say "hey". EVERYONE should give themselves the gift of reading this book, it will be one your greatest gifts ever. No wonder it is celebrating its 50th anniversary & still selling & being read, in many cases, over & over. It should get 50 stars instead of 5!!
PS I must have been 20 yrs old as I am 70 yrs old now.

I can't believe I am 65 and just now reading such a classic. I fell in love with the characters and could not put the book down. Everyone should read this one, an easy read with a great deal of meaning.

My first experience with this book was the movie, which I fell in love with when I was a child. In my early twenties I bought the book from what the club called their International Collector's Library. How I wish they would bring that club back again. Anyway, I couldn not believe that the book surpassed even the movie, a great classic in its own right. I love Scout and Jem, and the security that Atticus and Capurnia supply them with. And Dill is great. Everyone owes it to themselves to read this classic.

I;m reading this book right now in school :) the class is on chapter seventeen, and I'm on chapter twenty three :) I would have already finished, but were not allowed to take the books home; we don't have enough books for everyone to take home at my little school... :) I'm glad that reading this is required, the story is absolutely amazing and inspiring.
