Why do testicles hang the way they do? Is there an adaptive function to the female orgasm? What does it feel like to want to kill yourself? Does free will really exist? And why is the penis shaped like that anyway?
You’ll find the answers to these other thorny questions in Why Is the Penis Shaped Like That?, a lively collection of essays by research psychologist Jesse Bering. It’s a witty and irreverent exploration of some of the most taboo issues in human sexuality, physiology and psychology from an evolutionary perspective. Bering explains how acne sets us apart from other apes, ponders the prevalence of cannibalism and explains the developmental origins of a number of unusual fetishes. One of the freshest voices in science today!

I worked hard to get through the first chapter, and then gave up half through the second chapter. I find nothing of value in the book. I'll either return it or maybe just toss it.

From reading through these reviews it appears that 3 of the 4 people who have posted haven't even read the book. Why are these being counted in the book's rating?
Reviewer: Tom
Why are 8 out of 9 reviews of this book (all 5 stars) the exact same? This is clearly a fraudulent attempt to hype this book.
More importantly, why is a book like this offered in the Military Book Club? Please relegate this type of book to a more appropriate audience.

Thank you Carl. The 5 star rating is for you!! This book truly caught my attention (I AM interested in penises! among other things) and in reading your review I decided to order it. I will post again to give the book its rating as well. Cheers!!

These were great essays on human behavior and the explanations were easy to grasp and learn. And to the person who gave the book one star because of being not interested in penises obviously never read the book.
