'Idols' by any other name appear as Friends!
Jonathan Black has produced some of the more richly colorful images of men in this book he aptly titles IDOLS. His approach to the model is one of implied complete trust, as none of these models seem the least bit stiff or posed. There is a relaxed feeling that serves to accentuate the sensuous virility of every one of his carefully selected models. Though the book is small in size (about 7.5 X 5 inches) it is not cramped in detail. The design is clean, allowing for full-page full bleed images of a model with the adjacent page sharing small snapshot like images. The images that are the most successful are the one that make a full two page spread.
Though there are many photography books centered on the male, Jonathan Black adds another dimension to his work: each of the models is identified by name, as if this were a personal album of his best friends. They could easily become the viewers? best friends with a few viewings of this excellent collection. Grady Harp

Some Information Worth Considering

I won't say that this is a bad book, but it was much smaller (5 1/4 inches by just under 7 1/2 inches) and much thinner, at only 1/4 inch, than I expected.
The pictures in the book are all clear and in color, which is nice.
But there are several instances where they first show full-size photos of clothed models and then drop down to nude photos that measure about 1 1/2 inches by just under 2 1/4 inches.
So you may end up having to squint to see some of these guys in all their glory.
And there are several times where these tiny photos are surrounded by lots of white space, so someone was trying to be "artistic." That would have been fine if this were a larger book (and it could be available elsewhere in a larger version).
On the whole, I'd say the book is worth buying, but be prepared to be slightly annoyed by its size and design layout.
