Joss Whedon
Academy Award nominated and Hugo winning writer Joseph Hill “Joss” Whedon was born in 1964, grew up in Manhattan and attended Winchester College in England. After earning a film degree at Wesleyan University, he spent a year writing for the sitcom Roseanne, then quit when he sold his first film script, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992). After a stint as a “script doctor” for feature films, Whedon resurrected his tale of a teenage vampire slayer for TV. Needless to say—Success! In short order, Whedon penned the script for Alien: Resurrection, created Angel, a spin-off of Buffy and produced the short-lived sci-fi TV Western, Firefly. Then cancellation reared its ugly head. Even so, the phenomenal success of the graphic novels Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight, Serenity, and Angel: After the Fall shows that you can’t keep Joss Whedon down!
